My Ad...

This ad is kind of a public service announcement to raise awareness about what is in your cleaners. It is also really funny and kind of creepy which is the way they make people want to watch it. In fact, many people have looked for this ad instead of the other way around. I mainly chose this ad because it was very successful in a very creative way.

English 250...

It is a little overdue but I just wanted to give some thoughts on the class so far. First off, I have never liked English classes. To me, English is not a science. A science has a definite answer, you are either right or you are wrong. So if I were to get a bad grade on, lets say, a calculus test, I can only blame myself because I got the answer wrong. However, English is more an art because there are many interpretations of the same piece of literature. To be able to do well in an English class you need to be able to write what the professor wants to see and not what you actually perceive, which I believe is quite harmful. It is too easy to place a "right" way to perceive an article and a "wrong" way. The way to be a great English teacher is to have an extremely open mind and be open to see many different perspectives on the same article or journal.

At the moment, I fear that our professor does not have that broad scoped mind that we all would like to see. I have always had trouble writing pieces that the teacher is looking for, and this current teacher is extremely hard to please. It is causing me way more stress than is necessary. My mind is wired to understand concrete subjects such as math and physics, not English. I had high hopes for this semester but  they are quickly falling after seeing how close minded my professor actually is. I hope things will change for the better, but I am not holding my breath.

First Two Weeks of Class

I created this blog because we had to for my English 250 class, but so far I think I like blogging. The class is going really well and it is not too difficult. However we do need 4 different books for this class, and those are 4 books I will not use outside of my English class. All in all though, I like the class, which is a lot coming from me because English classes and I have never gotten along.

George Carlin - Prove it

While watching the video, it sounded like he was just attacking the large companies for their business. I highly doubt that all they do is protect their own interests although I am sure it still happens. He seems to just disregard any good that they may actually do. At the same time however he does bring up some good points, there are companies who do just what he was saying, lobbying congress and screwing people over just to protect their own interests. But above all this there is one thing I did not hear from him; proof. All of his comments and words seemed like pure conjecture. At the same time, even if someone wanted to prove him right, how do you do it? How do you back up statements like that? You can't. It is that simple.

I also personally believe that the most convincing and effective way to give a speech is calm and collected. The entire time he was going on this tirade he came across as a crazed old man which I believe in the end actually detracted from his overall point. In the end I believe George should stay away from topics like this because he is a comedian. His job is to make people laugh not to spew his personal political and societal opinions.

My name is Kevin and I come from a some what small town in Nebraska. I am in Air Force ROTC and I love love LOVE to play the drums. I have branched out musically to bass and guitar but I still love the drums. At some point when I go home I will post a video clip or two of me and my blues rock trio, The Domino Theory, playing at this blues bar in town. Just because I play in a blues band does not mean I love just the blues, in fact, I love almost every kind of music. The song posted is actually however blues rock.
